Business Central Configuration Packages are Not Just for Implementations! Use Them To Correct Table Issues! Configuration Packages are a useful tool that all implementers of Business Central have used for implementation. But they are so much more useful than that! You can use BC Configuration Packages to repair data when an error encroaches on normal processing and records are locked!
For instance: If you get an error processing payments such as “There are no payments to process for the selected entries. They might be included in another payment process. If so, the Applies to ID field will contain a value.” You may have checked an found that that field is not present on that window and you may have verified that there were no payments in process in any batch!
When processing a Bank Reconciliation you may encounter the error “Statement Line No. must be equal to ‘10000’ in Check Ledger Entry No.=5. Current Value is ”.
You’ll find you can’t SEE the field to fix it! And HERE is where Configuration packages come into play for Consultants and IT alike.
Without changing ANYTHING else about the transaction, use page inspection to find the table in question. Then create a configuration package to that table and use the Table Filter to filter to the values you are looking for. Simply export the full table without limiting fields and find the field in error and make the changes that Business Central told you about in the error. Once you import the file and apply it with your changes you will be able to create that payment or process that bank reconciliation.
So, the next time you get a horrifying error and can’t see the field to fix it, remember the process of the configuration package!
But, be careful as you can truly mess things up. You may want to take a new Sandbox copy or just copy the company in production to a backup company you can delete later if you don’t need it!
